What's in the Box?

We have two monthly box sizes to choose from. Our signature 'Large' box is a 13-14 pound "share", it is intended to be a one month supply of meat for a family size of 3-6 people (depending on your average consumption). This will typically include the following:

  • 7.5 lbs of Beef (steak, roast, burger patties, and ground)
  • 3.5 lbs of Chicken (1 whole)
  • 3.5 lbs of Pork (ground, bacon, and chops)
  • A recipe card with preparation tips and one "special item of the month" (lard, tallow, olive oil, etc.)
  • $199

  • 5.5 lbs of Beef (steak, roast or kebab meat, burger patties, and ground)
  • 3 lbs Chicken (1 whole or half)
  • 2 lbs of Pork (ground, bacon, and chops)
  • A recipe card with preparation tips and one "special item of the month" (lard, tallow, olive oil, etc.)
  • $149

Why is it called a share?

As a member of the Larder Meat Co. your money is going to local ranchers to purchase whole animals. After processing at a USDA Certified butcher, each animal is divided equally amongst the members. Think of it as purchasing stock in a publicly traded company, but with much tastier options and a better ROI - feeding your family in an environmentally responsible manner and supporting our Local Food Economy!

Where does it come from?

All of our products are sourced from San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.

Is it “organic”?

Not all of our products are Certified Organic. Certified Organic is a regulated term that is not a cost effective measure for many farmers and ranchers. As we believe in a sustainable Local Food Economy, we believe this philosophy must extend to the economics of the farm itself. Our sources are ranchers who believe in responsible animal husbandry practices, far beyond those legally protected terms identified by the USDA such as Certified Organic. All of our animals are pasture raised, antibiotic & hormone free.

What is the delivery schedule & AREA?

You will receive your share once per month (deliveries begin on the third week of the month). You will be notified prior to delivery with a specific delivery date (which can be rescheduled if needed). We deliver free of charge to any residence or business in California, Arizona & Nevada.

how is the meat packed?

We pack all of our product in a biodegradable cooler that will keep your meat frozen until you receive it. We deliver to some SLO county residents, but we ship FedEx to the majority of our customers. Shipped boxes are packed with dry ice.

Our meat is delivered frozen for two reasons. First, we want you to receive the meat as fresh as possible. For the Larder Meat Co., this means Beef that has been dry aged for a minimum of 20 days and immediately vacuum sealed and flash-frozen. Our Pork and Chicken is vacuum sealed and flash-frozen immediately after harvest, to preserve at peak freshness. The second reason our product is frozen is so that you can stock your home freezer with a month's supply of locally raised meat and thaw it as needed. Just think, you can check one more item off of your grocery list, without ever going to the store. Your meat purchasing needs for a whole month are just a click away!

How long will it last?

As delivered, the meat will remain at peak freshness if stored in your freezer until the day you plan on using it. If kept frozen, the meat will remain at peak freshness for up to six months. After thawing (we highly recommend thawing overnight in your refrigerator), the meat will be best prepared within two to three days. Here is an idea of how to use the meat over the course of a month:

Why is buying a share from the larder Meat Co. better than buying from the store?

- You are supporting a local ranching family.

- You are buying from a much smaller supply chain with a much smaller carbon foot print.

- We ship 1 week after processing, ensuring that you will receive the freshest meat available.

- You know exactly where your meat comes from (did you know that retailers do not legally have to state the country of origin of the meat they sell?)

- Our meat tastes better! Once you roast a pasture raised chicken or try Mangalista bacon you will never want to go back;)
